WRITING DREAMS INTO REALITY
by Kristan Hoffman

Aside from being a sweet and lovely young woman, Kristan is an amazing and talented writer pursuing her dream as a novelist. She has already seen early success with several of her pieces published, including her first ebook, Twenty–SomewhereI have enjoyed watching and reading as she has spread her wings and flown. She beautifully ties her life experiences with current events
and pop culture, reflecting on her successes and failures. In addition to having a way with words,
she has a great eye for composition and captures her life in photos. This comes in handy as Kristan travels the globe. Just this past year she has visited Africa, Seattle, Paris ... just to name a few.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM? WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO PURSUE YOUR DREAM?
My dream is to have a lifelong career as a novelist. A couple years ago, I decided to quit my day job* in order to pursue that dream full-time. It had become increasingly difficult to split my focus and energy between work and writing, and I felt that it wasn’t fair to my employers or to me.

*I worked at a wonderful little design firm, which is where I met Emily and was blown away by her talent! Also her vibrant sense of fashion. ;)

WHERE DOES YOUR DREAM COME TO LIFE?

I have always written primarily at home, although my space has gone through multiple transformations over the years. I have worked at the dining table, at an elementary school desk purchased off Craigslist, and now at a plain white computer station from IKEA. I’m one of those people who rearranges rooms compulsively, until everything “feels right.” This is what’s working for me right now.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST DIFFICULT AND EXCITING PART ABOUT PURSUING YOUR DREAM?
The most difficult part of pursuing my dream is keeping the right mindset. Having patience, and not comparing myself to others. That kind of thinking doesn’t accomplish anything.

The most exciting part is looking back and seeing my progress, and then looking forward and seeing my potential. It seems like infinity in both directions.

CAN YOU NAME THE BIGGEST LESSON YOU'VE LEARNED?

Perfection isn’t real. (And even if it were, it would be boring.) Mistakes are part of creativity. Sometimes the best part!

WHAT INSPIRES YOU? HOW ARE YOU INSPIRED?
This might be obvious, but one of my biggest inspirations is good writing. I love reading -- anything and everything, as long as it’s well-written. Beyond that, I’m inspired by music, art & design, foreign cities, old buildings, and most importantly, people. Their stories, their voices, their perspectives.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE IN 5 WORDS?

Clean, comfortable, simple with a twist.

(I’m counting “with a” as one word, shh!)

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT PURSUING YOUR DREAM?

What I love most about pursuing my dream is…
